  Saturday, February 18, 2012  From 9:30 – 11:30 AM
 Boccaccio’s Restaurant
 32123 Lindero Canyon Road, #104

Westlake Village
  "the Landing"

The February program spotlights African American History Month,   Civil Rights, and Equality .  Long-time DWCCV members and supporters Elda and Ron Soderquist will tell the story of their involvement with the Civil Rights movement beginning in 1956.  The couple's commitment began when their children were the only white students in Jersey City elementary school classes.  When Ron was Director of Counseling at a Minnesota college, he and Elda drove to Selma to support blacks (or Negroes in those days) daring to struggle for freedom from oppression.

The presentation also will include photos that illustrate their dramatic experiences in Selma and a march to deposit coffins on the steps of the Alabama state capitol in Montgomery.  The march started after a former student at the Minnesota college was clubbed to death in Selma just two months before Soderquists arrived.  Questions and answers will be included.

The February brunch also will include a brief update of Planned Parenthood of Santa Barbara, Ventura & San Luis Obispo Counties.
Brunch donation is $20.
